'All That Glitters' Chainmaille Show on Marietta Square

Marietta artist Helen Rule will showcase her chainmaille jewelry at 2 Rules Fine Art on Marietta Square in February.

2 Rules Fine Art presents its show “All that Glitters,” featuring the chainmaille jewelry of Helen Rule. The gallery will have special pricing of Rule’s jewelry during the entire exhibit.

Helen Rule has been making chainmaille in both the form of jewelry and armor for 12 years. Rule was inspired to start working with chainmaille as a result of her archaeological studies at Johns Hopkins University, where she received an Anthropology B.A. in 2004.

Rule’s jewelry designs use a variety of metals, including silver, gold, bronze, brass, copper, titanium and niobium. In addition, many of her pieces incorporate precious and semi-precious stones.

Chainmaille was originally developed over 2500 years ago as personal armor for soldiers. Highly successful, it was employed across Europe, Asia, and North Africa until recent times. Its main use today is as jewelry. Different patterns have different histories, and Rule’s chainmaille creations use Persian, Byzantine, Japanese, box chain and European patterns.

The show will kick off with an opening night reception on Friday, Feb. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is free, open to the public and will include live music and refreshments.
