Bicyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident in Marietta

A 55-year-old male was riding a bicycle on Powder Springs Street near Natchez Trace when he was struck by what witnesses describe as a black SUV.

The Marietta Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) is investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident.

The accident occurred at 7:43 p.m. on March 31 on Powder Springs Street, according to Marietta Police.

The driver of the vehicle was last seen northbound on Powder Springs Street towards downtown Marietta.

The bicycle rider was transported to Kennestone Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Marietta Police released surveillance images of a "vehicle and driver of interest." The black SUV, possibly a Cadillac Escalade or similar vehicle with dark tinted windows and black wheels, was seen leaving the NCG Cinema immediately prior to the accident, according to Marietta Police.

The male driver and two children were at the theater leaving a showing of the β€œCroods,” according to Marietta Police. Investigators would like to identify and speak with the driver of this vehicle as part of their investigation.
