Boxer Paralyzed in Marietta Motorcycle Crash
Boxer Paul Williams severed his spinal cord and cannot move from the waist down.
Boxer Paul Williams was left paralyzed after a Sunday motorcycle crash in Marietta on South Marietta Parkway near Atlanta Road, according to the Los Angeles Times, Detroit Free Press and Marietta Police.
Williams was traveling east on South Marietta Parkway at a high speed on a modified sport motorcycle, according to Marietta Police. The motorcycle could not negotiate a curve and crashed into an embankment.
Williams severed his spinal cord and cannot move from the waist down, the LA Times reports.
Williams, a fighter known as "The Punisher," is from Aiken, S.C. He was in metro Atlanta to attend his brother's wedding.
He was transported by Metro Ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in serious condition. The boxer will undergo surgery Wednesday in an attempt to stabilize the healthy upper half of his spine by putting a protective wall around it, the Boston Herald reports.
