Marietta City Schools elementary grade students will join millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the fifteenth annual National Education Association's Read Across America Day, March 2.

NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.

“In the spirit of supporting the Marietta Reads! literacy initiative, we encourage adults in our community to read to a child in commemoration of Dr. Seuss's birthday,” said Dr. Debra McCracken, MCS Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, in a press release.

A.L. Burruss Elementary

• Dr. Seuss Trivia Contest on BNN (Burruss News Network)
• Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with a special visit from Cat in the Hat

Dunleith Elementary

• Dr. Seuss Trivia Contest on DNN (Dunleith News Network) by Cat in the Hat
• Students participate in Read the Most from Coast to Coast nationwide challenge

Hickory Hills Elementary

• 10-minute read-in in the cafeteria from 2:30-2:40 to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday.

Lockheed Elementary

• Dr. Seuss Trivia Contest on WJET (Morning News Show)
• School wide Read In, each class receives a Dr. Seuss book for the teacher to read aloud

Marietta Center for Advanced Academics

• Students participate in Read the Most from Coast to Coast nationwide challenge
