Marietta Police Officers responded to a report of a person shot at 113 Griggs Street at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.  When officers arrived they found the victim, Arthur Moses Jr, 24 of Marietta, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

The investigation revealed that the suspect, Patrick Burr, used to date the female resident at 113 Griggs Street.  Burr arrived at the house and observed both Moses and his ex-girlfriend sitting in a car in the driveway of the house.

Burr pulled out a pistol and began firing into the car, police said.  Both occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot, but Burr was able to fatally shoot Moses before he could escape, police said.

This is exactly why you need to have psych exams before you are allowed to buy a gun. They could have asked this idiot "if you break up with your girlfriend, are you going to kill anybody who goes near her?". I swear, the world has just gone mad.

This might have turned out differently if Moses had been armed. Disarming law abiding citizens is not the answer to this problem. Where did the perp register his gun? Last I checked, murder was against the law.

Moses should have asked the woman he was sitting in the car with whether or not she had any psycho ex-boyfriends. Surely this guy showed some signs that he was violent. Although perfectly normal-acting people sometimes snap. I agree with the right to bear arms, but not for bad people. And there is really no way to control that.

People need to take mental/behavioral health seriously. We can no longer look the other way when our family, friends, and neighbors display or voice unusual things. If you know someone who you think may need services, call your nearest mental health provider.

With condolence to the victims family. The accused was not a thug or a troublemaker. He did not have any apparent mental health issues. He has always been a standup guy that would offer a stranger help with his last quarter. The circumstance of this tragedy is not completely known. Maybe it was a instance of the fragility of ones mind, and very sad for the young man and his family who became a sacrifice for a inevitable domestic situation.

Well, the fact that people can snap at the smallest thing (and, yes, I know that can happen), that tells me that unless you completely ban guns, things like this will continue to happen. As long as people break other people's hearts, as long as bullies keep bullying, as long as employers keep screwing their employees, there will be violence.

They need to make new gun laws.

That's also when people take advantage of our government-they can't really be arrested until they've done something against the law. With cases like this, it's too late. The harm was already done; people were shot and/or killed. One person arrested; just as many or more people shot and/or killed.
