The State Board of Education, at their Feb. 20, meeting approved Marietta City Schools (MCS) renewal as a Georgia Charter System. The renewal is valid for a 10-year period.

As part of the renewal process, members of the Georgia Charter Advisory Committee and Georgia Department of Education Charter Division conducted a site visit of district schools Dec. 20, 2012.

“Like many Charter Systems approved in Georgia, much of the previous innovation and execution of waivers from state law at Marietta City Schools has been done at the system level. There is tremendous opportunity for additional innovation at the individual school level,” said MCS Superintendent, Dr. Emily Lembeck.

“We believe our renewal as a Charter System creates a framework for more such innovation to emerge, and we are now poised to move to a deeper level of effective innovation, building on the strength of our success as one of Georgia’s initial Charter Systems and the strong support of all stakeholders in our community,” added Lembeck.
