Several months ago, Marietta Police began an effort to redesign and update the MPD uniform patch.

"We wanted a new patch that more boldly reflects Marietta; the community we so proudly serve and protect; as well a patch that displays our core values; honesty, integrity, respect, teamwork, loyalty, professionalism and teamwork," MPD Public Information Officer David Baldwin said in a press release.

"To that end we examined hundreds of patch designs and law enforcement artwork and color schemes; then narrowed the choices down and conducted a poll of MPD officers." 

The police department has settled on a patch that contains its core values; the founding date of Marietta (1834); a fountain symbolizing the Square; an aircraft symbolizing the city's history of aviation; a cannon representing the military history; and a gem symbolizing the  moniker as the Gem City of the South, all centered around the letter M. 

The Marietta Police Department is in the process of changing over to the new patch design, Baldwin said. The full transition should be completed in the next couple of months.
