Marietta Students Win Concerto Competition

Harpist Tyler Hartley and composer Johnny Bezama-Carvajal will be showcased with the Kennesaw State University Orchestra.

Harpist Tyler Hartley and composer Johnny Bezama-Carvajal (both of Marietta) were named the winners of the Kennesaw State University's 2012 Concerto Competition held on Nov. 11.

Hartley and Bezama-Carvajal will be showcased with the Kennesaw State University Orchestra at 8 p.m. on March 19 in the Performance Hall of the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center.

The concert will feature Symphony #1 composed by Bezama-Carvajal as well as works by Richard Strauss and Maurice Ravel. Hartley will perform the Concerto for Harp by Fr. Adriano Boieldieu.

The annual Concerto Competition allows KSU music students the opportunity to audition and perform as concerto soloists. The KSU Orchestra is conducted by Michael Alexander, director of orchestras.  Tickets for the March 19 concert are $10 and are available at the KSU box office.
