Pet Adoption, Book Signing, Play

Take a look at what is going on in Marietta this weekend.

 

1. Join Angels Among Us Pet Rescue on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for a pet adoption event at The Avenue East Cobb, located at 4475 Roswell Rd.

2. Quarter-Peeled Oranges a book written by Marietta neurologist Bruce Gillett, is a love story written in poetry form as a tribute to Gillett’s late wife, Dale, who courageously fought advanced breast cancer for 17 years and lost her battle in 2010.

Gillett, along with his illustrator, Bill Needs, will be at The Avenues at West Cobb Barnes and Noble Saturday to sign copies of their book. All proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Atlanta Affiliate.

3. Atlanta Lyric Theatre presents The Sound of Music at The Strand Theatre. The Sound of Music tells the story of Captain von Trapp, his seven musically gifted children and their governess Maria Rainer as they use their love and faith to survive and escape the Nazi occupation of Austria.

Leading the cast are Wendy Melkonian as Maria, Jeff McKerley as Captain von Trapp and Mary Welch Rogers as the Mother Abbess. The production is directed by Brandt Blocker and choreographed by Claci Miller.

Times: Dec. 15, 16, 17 and 18, 2011: Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
