Plane Bound for McCollum Lands on I-575
A plane bound for McCollum Field had to make an emergency landing Sunday afternoon on Interstate 575 South just south of Barrett Parkway.
Three people were aboard the plane, a fixed wing single-engine aircraft that is registered to Jesse Smalley of Kennesaw, according to the Federal Aviation Administration Registry.
"No injuries on the ground and no injuries in the aircraft," Officer Mike Bowman, spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department said.
I-575 Wreck Kills Norcross Man
A single car wreck early this morning killed 67-year-old Byron C. Brown of Norcross, a spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department said Sunday.
The fatal crash occurred at 1:15 a.m. Sunday when Brown, who was driving a silver 2009 Hyundai Azera north on Interstate 575, got off at the Barrett Parkway exit without slowing down, Officer Mike Bowman said.
"He then continued northbound crossing all lanes of Barrett Parkway and collided with a retaining wall on the north side of the roadway at a high rate of speed," Bowman said.
Roundabouts Among Possible Powder Springs Intersection Improvements
Four intersections have been targeted by Powder Springs officials as top priorities for reconfiguring, and one of them could have a big chunk paid for by the federal government.
City officials plan to submit the four to the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Transportation Improvement Program, which allocates federal funds to construction of high-priority projects in the metro area. The federal funding for such projects is 80 percent, while local governments are required to pay for the remaining 20.
After receiving Powder Springs’ proposals, the ARC will choose one, at which point the City Council would decide whether to move forward or decline the project.
