Residents in Georgia, Other States Want To Secede From U.S.

The move, which is gathering steam, is being done in the wake of President Obama's re-election.

 

Residents of Georgia and more than a dozen other states have filed petitions to secede from the United States, according to media reports.

Residents of Alabama, New York, Michigan, Texas and other states have filed the petitions under the "We The People" program, featured on the White House website, according to the Huffington Post.

The Georgia petition, which already has more than 4,000 signatures, reads in part:

"...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government..."

The petitions come in the wake of President Obama winning a second term November 6 over Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

According to the Huffington Post, The White House website explains of the review process for "We the People" petitions that get 25,000 signatures in a 30-day period: "If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response."

I was young diring the civil rights fight and really hoped america had matured, i now understand when people of color say things have not changed. Because they have not changed and these non-changed people are truly wolves in sheeps clothing! Bigotry is alive and well in 2012. By the way i am white in my 50's and southern born and bred. I will move to mass if necessary.

This is not a color thing, This is a corporate takeover of the Country and the destruction of the Constitution of the United States of America. Freedom is a thing of the past unless people stand up and speak up that they will NOT tolerate a mass destruction of Rights and Freedoms as written and agreed upon by the forefathers of the Country.

Yes i agree with you on what you say, but also think about the last 4 years of crap that has been spewing from republicans mouths that i personally do not remember happening in the past. I am a democrat and am against losing rights we had to fight for along with corporations and religious people running our country. Notice i used the religious word, not christians - big difference. I am over this crap and hope people will stop the greed and the bigotry.

The corporate takeover has corrupted both parties, but it has COMPLETELY bought the Republican party, and used it as a tool to blame Democrats, who generally mean well, for all of our problems, so that the corporations can take even more power. Just as in FDR's day, the only weapon the people have is to elect TRUE Democrats. Fortunately, although not enough seats in the House and Senate turned blue this time (thanks to Republican controlled gerrymandering of districts), the ones that did turned very blue. If people thought about what the Tea Party and Ayn Rand policies would ACTUALLY do to them, unless they are actually members of the perpetually rich one percent, they would reject those fantasies (we tried dropping taxes on the rich and doing nothing else to help the middle class and poor for 12 years under Reagan/Bush, and again for 8 years under Bush Jr., and the "job creators" took our jobs overseas rather than creating more here). Even the one percenters are hurting themselves in the LONG run, since poor and middle class people buy most of the things their businesses make.

And the parts of the Democratic platform that offend religious people DO NOT CONCERN government; if gay people get married and some then get divorced, how does that affect YOUR marriage and your faith, just don't marry them in YOUR church if you don't want to. Against birth control, don't use it YOURSELF. And anti-abortion laws like those in Ireland actually KILL women; one died last week.
