I loved Christmas on the Marietta Square when I was a little girl back in the 40's. My Dad had a Bicycle Shop on Mill Street and on Christmas Eve the family would have a picnic supper around the potbellied stove in the back of the shop while waiting for 'Santa' to pick up all the bikes, trikes, wagons etc. for delivery to the children. I loved looking out the shop door at the square which was all lit up with colored lights and decorations. It was quiet as most people had already gone home to be with their families. The sun had gone down and dark was settling in which added to the wonderment of the evening. It all seemed just so magical!!
