Take a look at family fun events going on in Marietta this weekend here. On the more practical side there will be a housing forum, Sip n' Stroll focusing on trees, free medication disposal and gardening workshop.
1. Join representatives from the city's housing, Community Development Division, Marietta Housing Authority and Cobb County Neighborhood Stabilization Program for the Homeownership Housing Forum.
Representatives will discuss programs that help low and moderate-income families buy a house or repair their current home and accept individual initial applications for assistance at the 10th annual meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.
2. Marietta Tree Keepers will host a Sip n’ Stroll, featuring a special neighborhood to tour with tree experts, identifying common opportunities and issues relating to trees. It’s free and open to the public. The event is BYOB.
For this Sip n’ Stroll, those in attendance will stroll down historic Camp/Awtrey/Stewart Streets in Marietta. Certified arborists, forester and landscape architects will lead the tour of the neighborhood, pointing out the many treasures and challenges that exist among the valuable stock of trees.
Meet at 347 Camp St. and park near the location. The event runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday.
3. The Marietta Police Department will offer a free medicine disposal on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.
4. The "Green Thumb Gardening Series" presented by Marietta Council of Garden Clubs, Inc. will hold its Annuals and Container Gardening workshop on Saturday. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., and presentations are from 9 to 11 a.m. Lunch is included. Registration is required and cost is $30.
