Today in History: First Continental Congress
Explore Georgia History with Marietta Patch. In 1774, Georgia was the only American colony not represented at the meeting of the First Continental Congress.
This flag, called 'The Continental Colors' and 'The Grand Union', was never carried in the field by the Continental land forces but was used by the Navy as its exclusive ensign. In 1777, the Congress stated "That the Flag of the US be thirteen stripes of alternating red and white; and that the union be thirteen stars, white on a blue field, representing a new constellation."

Of the thirteen American colonies, only Georgia was not represented at the meeting of the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia, according to USHistory.org.
Delegates at the meeting adopted a declaration which included a boycott all British goods.
