Charles Tumulak of Lilburn was paralyzed following a horrific fall in an obstacle course race. His family and friends continue to rally around him.
A Marietta bakery will soon hold a fundraiser to benefit a Lilburn man, who was injured in a horrific accident in March. The fundraiser takes place 7 a.m. - 9 p.m., May 18 at Canvas Cafe and Bakery, in Marietta. Proceeds will benefit Charles Tumulak, who was paralyzed from the neck down after falling 15 feet -- head first -- during an obstacle course race. One of Tumulak's sisters, Leilani Townsend, said the bakery has "graciously taken it upon themselves to organize and put on this amazing event in which 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Charles." There will be more than 150 local businesses with booths at today’s Cobb Business-to-Business Expo, and Patch will be one of them. The Cobb Business-to-Business Expo, a free event that drew more than 1,600 people in 2012, is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 16 at the Cobb Galleria Centre. This year, the expo will feature former Atlanta Braves player Javy Lopez, who will sign autographs in the LOUD Security Systems booth. LOUD is just one of more than 150 local businesses that will showcase their products and services at the expo. Other exhibitors include Keep it in Cobb, which encourages residents to buy local. Take a look at the Marietta businesses that passed the alcohol compliance check and the businesses cited for selling to minors on April 26.
The Marietta Police Department conducted an alcohol compliance check on April 26. Forty-five businesses were checked. Seven sold alcoholic beverages to the department's underage buyers. The buyers did not provide false identification or misrepresent their age in any way. It is the responsibility of the seller to check ID, and refuse sell to underage persons. A Jeep traveling at a high rate of speed east on Whitlock Avenue left the roadway, overturned and hit a tree, killing the driver instantly.
Marietta Police are investigating a single vehicle fatality accident on Whitlock Avenue at Winn Street that occurred at 1:42 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8. Initial on scene investigation reveals that a 2001 Jeep Cherokee was traveling east on Whitlock Avenue at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control causing his vehicle to leave the roadway, overturn and strike a tree, killing the driver instantly. The driver's name is being withheld pending family notification. There were no other injuries or vehicles involved. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Geoff Culpepper at (770)794-5357.

The Marietta Food Truck Rally is postponed for the second week.
The first Marietta Food Truck Rally of 2013 is being postponed due to weather. The Food Truck Rally was scheduled for tonight, Monday, May 6, at Harry’s Farmers Market. The Marietta Food Truck Rally will offer Cobb foodies a taste of the thriving urban street food scene and bring casual, affordable, delicious food options to Marietta’s community. Last year the Marietta Food truck Rally was held at the parking lot of Walton Communities’ 12-acre Meeting Park near Marietta Square. The move to Harry’s Farmers Market offers food truck enthusiasts a more central location with expanded parking and seating options, according to Whole Foods Market.
