The exciting book, The Trail of My Life: The Gene Espy Story, showcases Gene Espy’s life full of adventures including hiking, bicycling, spelunking, boating and motorcycling.

From an early age, this Eagle Scout, Georgia Tech graduate, and U.S. Air Force aerospace engineer explored the world around him just for fun.

The highlight of all his adventures was his 1951 Georgia to Maine solo hike of the entire Appalachian Trail which made him the second thru-hiker. Gene is a pioneer among the currently 10,000 hikers of the entire trail, encountering much more solitude, wilderness, and difficulties in his hike than today’s hikers.

 Newly discovered research seems to show that Gene Espy may indeed be the FIRST person to walk the Appalachian Trail, as Ed Shaffer seems to have taken a few shortcuts & hitchhiked in a few places according to his journals.
