DESCRIPTION:Why are rain gardens important?&nbsp\; Rainwater that goes i
nto storm drains discharges directly into rivers\, lakes or streams. Th
is sudden introduction of large volumes of stormwater erodes stream ban
ks and stream beds and increases flooding risks. Rain gardens protect l
ocal waterways by decreasing the volume of runoff entering surface wate
rs during rain events. Rain gardens provide a unique landscape feature.
\nThe plants in the rain garden are both beautiful and helpful. They add
color and interest to the landscape. Depending on the type of vegetat
ion\, the rain garden can also serve as habitat for butterflies\, birds
and other wildlife. Come learn more about the garden and get your hand
 s dirty!\nEvery Wednesday from&nbsp\;9 to 11:00 a.m.\, we will explore a
nd maintain the rain garden at the Cobb County Water Quality Lab.
