Tree receives the ax penalty for killing a truck.

The story of a dead truck, a pile of logs, and accident prevention tips.

I never knew that a tree could bend sideways, snap apart, and kill a truck.  Last month, one did.

The truck in question was a sleek, shiny, new (or, at least, it looked new) fire-engine red truck that belonged to one of my neighbors.  My family and I loved to see it on the way to errands and my children want one like it.  My neighbor would wash it and display it out in his driveway with pride.

Then one day strong winds blew in, a tree branch fell, and the truck was totaled.  The firefighters responded to check for human injuries, the police drove by, reports were filed, the insurance man visited, and finally our neighbor bought another truck.  But the story isn't completely done.  The tree received the ax penalty and was turned into logs.  Each loss is a lesson to those who listen, and we can always find ways to make the best of a hard situation!

My story is, in fact, a call to action.  When the winds roll in, please consider moving your vehicle into the garage or, at least, out from under heavy tree branches.  Check your trees each year to see if there are branches that need to be cut and turned into wood.
