Red Bandanna Pet Food's Angel Tree Supports Five Local Atlanta-Area Animal Rescues

Every year, the U.S. Marines collect “Toys for Tots” where they ask the public to donate new, unwrapped toys for underprivileged children to enjoy during the holiday season. In that same spirit, but for the homeless “furkids” in the area, Red Bandanna Pet Food hosts the Angel Tree program, beginning on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). The Angel Tree is a “wish list” of items local rescue pets need this season. The rescues sponsored by Red Bandanna generally use the Angel Tree donations to get through the first couple of months of the new year, when monetary donations tend to drop off. Rescues wish for everything from food and supplements to treats and toys to leashes and shampoo.

According to Dylan Yellowlees, Social Media and Graphics Manager for Red Bandanna, “This year’s Angel Tree will work just like it has in the past. Customers just pick an Angel off the tree with the name of the rescue and pet, while doing their regular shopping, and buy what that pet is wishing for this holiday season. We collect the gifts and present them to the rescues at the end of December.”

Last year, Angel Tree brought in approximately $7,000 worth of products to six local rescues. This year, Red Bandanna is sponsoring five Atlanta-area rescues: Boston Terrier Rescue of East TN (in Georgia), Good Mews, Mutt Madd-ness, Southeast Pug Rescue & Adoption, Inc. and You Lucky Dog. All 13 Red Bandanna stores across Atlanta (Alpharetta, Atlanta, Buckhead, Buford, Canton, Marietta, Milton, Norcross, Roswell and Suwanee) participate in Angel Tree, and each rescue is represented at every store. This year, Red Bandanna hopes to collect at least $10,000 worth of products for all the doggies and kitties that need a forever home.

Yellowlees says, “The Angel Tree donations run through Christmas, generally, but we always get a little afterwards too. Then the rescues come pick up the donations at our warehouse. Many of the rescue folks send us pictures with the pets receiving their goods, and it makes the holidays so special for us.”

“We are so grateful to partners like Red Bandanna who support our rescue efforts. With over $11,000 of debt due to vet bills, our rescue needs every donation it can get,” Megel says. She continues, “Angel Tree is such a fantastic program because it allows our foster pugs to share in the spirit of the season, until they can find forever homes and celebrate those holidays with their new families.”

Red Bandanna Pet Food is a local 13-store chain of one-stop shops providing top-quality pet food, supplements, treats, chews, shampoos, accessories and toys for dogs and cats. Several of the stores also feature self-wash grooming stations and treats from Rusty’s Bakery, homemade by Chef Tisha Garcia. Rusty’s Bakery offers handcrafted, all-natural pet treats or “paw-stries” starting in price at $4.99 for a baker’s dozen. Though the confections are currently only cooked at the Roswell location (and then distributed to the other stores), future plans include additional store build-outs as well as a continued focus on holistic and baked goods and treats.
