Three organizations partner to revitalize a neighborhood and build a new home for local couple

Emmanuel “Neak” Adofo and his fiancé, L.O Ama Nyarko, who emigrated from Ghana to the U.S., will celebrate their new Habitat home at a dedication ceremony on September 21. Neak is a first-time homebuyer.

The home was completed thanks to a partnership between Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Metro Atlanta, Manhattan Associates and Bank of America. Representatives from all three organizations will celebrate with Neak and L.O Ama in their new house on Saturday at the dedication.

As part of their cultural heritage, it is Neak’s responsibility to provide a home for his intended wife, L.O Ama. Finishing this house represents the completion of an essential step in their marriage plans. This may explain why it seemed effortless for Neak to maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude as he completed 300 hours of “sweat equity” while also working full time as a warehouse assistant.

As the house sponsor, it was Manhattan Associates’ privilege to supply volunteers to work side- by-side with Neak, his family and other Habitat homeowners. Manhattan’s partnership with Habitat, which resulted in a new house and neighborhood for Neak and his family, involves not only volunteer labor, but also a significant financial contribution for building materials and a commitment to investing in the community. Without building materials, no home would exist.

Manhattan Associates staffed the entire build with 200 employees who participated on eight consecutive Saturdays starting in July. On the first and last days of the build, Manhattan staff were joined Bank of America volunteers who enthusiastically put their shoulders to the grindstone to build and raise the walls, and landscape.

The donation of the property is part of a strategic alliance between Bank of America and Habitat for Humanity where donations of low-value and of value-distressed properties will be turned into affordable housing. Bank of America has been a national partner of Habitat for Humanity since 2002, contributing more than $22 million to Habitat’s work around the world.

NW Metro Atlanta Habitat is delighted to have the support of these two corporate sponsors, which enabled it to build a house for a hard-working family in need of affordable housing. Mike King, board chairman of the affiliate, said, “We sincerely thank these two corporations who have generously contributed to the success of our affordable housing mission in Cobb, Douglas and Paulding counties. Both their financial donations and the gift of their labor are greatly appreciated. We couldn’t do it without people and businesses like these.”
