Acting Classes, Clay, Trees, Jazz

Check out some of the events going on in Marietta, including a night of jazz, classes and the chance to get your hands dirty.

1. Get ready to get your hands dirty. Students will learn the basics of handbuilding with clay, including pinching, coiling and slab construction, with emphasis on technique and basic forms. Join the  on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. for the Youth Handbuilding event. Saturdays, March 10 through March 24 and April 7.

2. Join the for Jazz on the Square with Althea Rene and Jeff Sparks on Saturday at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 to $36.

3. Join for a special art talk with March First Friday artist, Holly Irwin, as she talks about her technique, passion and inspiration for her paintings.

"My formal training emphasized drawing as the foundation of all art. Drawing the figure from live models is part of my ongoing discipline. I constantly experiment with different ways of conveying the human form," Irwin said in artist statement.

4. Come out to for a tree planting event. Park at the Cheatham Hill Road lot. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and volunteers will be planting from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

5. In partnership with TheatreSouth Atlanta, the is offering teens the chance to develop their acting skills. The classes are being taught by Herman LeVern Jones, a professor at Life University.

The one hour workshop will be at Mountain View Regional Library on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon for middle schoolers and from noon to 2 p.m. for high schoolers. 

6. Come out to the Marietta Square Famers Market on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
