Easter Eggs and Martinis and Mikado and More

It's Thursday, the weekend is around the corner, and you have no idea what to do. At Marietta Patch, we have compiled the best bets for a great weekend.

Essential Marietta happenings for the weekend:

1. Two huge Easter Egg hunts will be held in Marietta this weekend. The city-sponsored Easter Egg Scramble will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at . The Easter Bunny will be there and will make sure everyone gets plenty of candy and prizes for everyone. The hunt area will be divided into three age groups. Admission and parking are free. A Cobb-sponsored Egg Hunt 2011 will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at .  Events include an Easter basket and Mad Hatter contest. The hunt schedule: 3 years and under at 10:30 a.m., 4 to 5 years at 11 a.m., special populations at 11:30 a.m., 6 to 7 years at noon, 8 to 10 years at 12:30 p.m.  For information, go to prca.cobbcountyga.gov or call 770-528-8875.

2. The will hold its Martinis and Music program from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Feature exhibitions during the event include "Summering at the End of an Empire," which are photographic paintings by
John Folsom and "The Art of the Quilt," a selection of the best of the East Cobb Quilter's Guild. A silent auction will benefit and music will be provided by PRIME.

3. The Atlanta Lyric Theatre debuts its production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado at 8 p.m. Friday at the . The Mikado tells the story a fictitious Japanese town full of colorful characters amid a crazy romantic triangle.

4. Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers are scheduled to appear Saturday at the , marking the end of this year's Encore entertainment season. The Gatlin Brothers struck gold in the 1970s and 1980s with such hits as "All the Gold in California" and "She Used to Be Somebody's Baby." For information, call 770-528-8490.

5. The 1st Annual Y Not Run and 1 Mile Skirt Run, a serious race and then a not-so-serious run, will be held Saturday to benefit the YWCA. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. near Polk Street Park at First United Methodist Church of Marietta and winds through historic and scenic Marietta neighborhoods and back to the church. The race is USATF-certified.

The one-mile run, however, offers a little flash as runners are encouraged to run in their best skirts. Sure, women can run, but the fun starts at 9:15 a.m. as men run by in their latest fashion get-ups.

The event costs $25 through today and then rises to $30 until race day.
