Frugal Family: Family Entertainment, Free Food for Kids

Marietta Patch provides a selection of great bargains for the whole family each Wednesday morning.

We're all watching our family budgets these days. Whether shopping with coupons or looking for two-for-one deals, we're taking advantage of all sorts of offers and savings that help us stretch our dollars.

This column is dedicated to giving you five great local deals each week that will help your family's bottom line, and since we do the scouting for you, you can save time as well as money.

This week, Frugal Family scoured our local sources to come up with fun, free or cheap family activities in Marietta including a museum tour, a children’s musical, free kids’ meals and local festivals featuring antiques, autos and The Constitution.

Wednesday, Sept. 14: “Murray and Etta Open a Restaurant”

The Marietta Museum of History offers Mice Tours for the smallest of visitors, toddlers 3 to 5 and their parents, for $5 per family at 10:30 a.m. Different topics will be offered on the second Wednesday of every month. The purpose of the one-hour tours is to introduce toddlers to history through very basic concepts like shapes, sounds, games, tools and jobs. Museum mascots Murray and Etta are whimsical cartoon mice that will help convey the themes of the tours and provide a little fun. The tours will offer a variety of activities including story time and crafts. 1 Depot St., Marietta, 30060.

Friday, Sept. 16: “Jack and Jill and the Crown of Wonders”  

When Jack comes back down from the beanstalk, life in the little village returns to normal—or does it? Join Jack, Jill and all your favorite storybook characters in this magical, musical romp written and directed by Don Goodner. The house will open 30 minutes before the performance, and there will be one 10 minute intermission. Tickets are $8.50 plus tax, which totals to $9. 7 to 8 :30 p.m. at the Children’s Garden Theater. 3380 Canton Rd., Marietta, 30066 (at the former Blackwell Playhouse). 

Saturday, Sept 17: Kids Eat Free on Saturdays at Whitlock’s Bar and Grill

Saturday hours are noon to 11 p.m. 990 Whitlock Ave., Marietta, 30064. 770-590-1500. 

Saturday Sept 17:  Marietta Street Fest 

Now in its 20th year, this show is the only antique festival in Cobb County. The Marietta Museum of History will host Antiques, Arts & Autos. Historic Marietta Square. 9a.m. to 5 p.m. No Cost. 770-794-5710.

Sunday Sept. 18: Constitution Day Festival of Georgia on the Marietta Square

Come out to Marietta Square and join this educational and fun festival with live music, food, vendors, arts and crafts and kids activities. Learn more about our country's constitution by taking a walk through the Constitution Challenge and learning about our amendments. 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Glover Park.
