Frugal Family Finds Fun Fall Festivals

Marietta Patch provides a selection of great bargains for the whole family each Wednesday morning.

We're all watching our family budgets these days. Whether shopping with coupons or looking for two-for-one deals, we're taking advantage of all sorts of offers and savings that help us stretch our dollars.

This column is dedicated to giving you five great local deals each week that will help your family's bottom line, and since we do the scouting for you, you can save time as well as money.

This week Frugal Family found some great weekend Fall activities and pumpkin patches close to home. There’s no need to spend a lot of money on gas, go to North Georgia to buy outrageously priced pumpkins and attend Fall festivals. Local family fun and everything-pumpkin is what this weekend holds. You don’t want to miss the following activities:

Saturday, Oct. 15:   on . 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Fall arts and crafts festival features local artists’ works, crafts, family fun, food and games. This year the festival also includes:

  • Halloween Happenings: Games, candy, prizes and a costume contest for children 12 and under at 2 p.m. There is even a costume contest for pets at 3 p.m. No registration is required for the costume contests.
  • Scarecrows in the Square has become an annual tradition in which a variety of creative scarecrows decorate Glover Park. Scarecrows are set up by schools, groups and organizations the first week in October and remain in the Square until Nov. 1. Prizes for the best scarecrows will be awarded at 1:45 p.m.
  • Pumpkin Patch with pumpkin decorating for kids
  • Farmers Market: 9 a.m. to noon.

Saturday, Oct. 15: Family Fun Day, Pumpkin Patch. Games, stories, bake sale and lots of pumpkins.

10 a.m. to 9 p.m. 3956 Due West Road, Marietta, 30064. 

Oct. 1 through Oct. 31: Pumpkin Patch at Eagle Pointe Church. Besides large pumpkins for sale, there will be gourds, mums and picture opportunities for all ages. These pumpkins are grown in New Mexico in a Indian Reservation, picked and delivered to Eagle Pointe Church. Come pick out your special pumpkin! The pumpkin patch will be open for field trips to tour and decorate pumpkins from schools in the area.

Monday through Thursday: 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. 5100 Old Stilesboro Rd., Acworth. Phone: 770-421-1643.

Oct. 15 through Oct. 31: Pumpkin Patch at Brookwood Christian School. Fall fun for the whole family. Bring your camera! There will be pumpkins, baked goods, store time, crafts and more.

Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16. Fall Festival at Whole Foods/Harry’s Market. Family activities, crafts, face painting and brats on the grill. Sample great foods inside from the vendors.
