November is the Best Time to Buy…

Marietta Patch provides a selection of great bargains for the whole family each Wednesday morning. Whether shopping with coupons or looking for two-for-one deals, we're taking advantage of all sorts of offers and savings that help us stretch our dollars.

This column is dedicated to giving you at least five great local deals each week that will help your family's bottom line, and since we do the scouting for you, you can save time as well as money.

Remember when the Christmas season began the day after Thanksgiving? That time is long gone. With a sluggish economy, retailers’ holiday sales have already begun in full force. You can now skip the frenzy of those last minutes sales, save money and your sanity, and actually enjoy the holidays—if you shop smart. According to consumer reports, now is a perfect time to buy the following:

Electronics: Hands down, the best month to buy electronics is in November. Specifically, Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, and Cyber Monday offer the best deals of the year. Some retailers actually take losses on some items to bring you in. Be checking BrandSmart, Best Buy and all the other big stores offering a large selection of electronics and savings. Tip: BrandSmart can now be shopped online.

New Cars: Newer models are on the lots by September, and dealers are anxious to get rid of this year’s “older” new cars. From now until December, the deals get better and better.

Toys: Retailers are starting the popular toy sales now hoping to get you back before Christmas for more shopping.

Housewares/Cookware:  According to Forbes, tradition is one reason pots, pans and cutlery are on sale now. The other reason is that large numbers of consumers buy housewares as Christmas gifts.

Clothing: Wedding Dresses are most heavily discounted in November. Swimwear is also super cheap right now.

Bonus 6th Deal: Fruits and Vegetables: In-season produce is always cheaper. In November, in-season veggies and fruits include apples, oranges, tangerines, cranberries, Honeydew melons, Bartlett pears, mushrooms, cauliflower, spinach, broccoli and Brussels sprouts.

Bonus 7th Deal: More coupons are issued in November and December than any other time of year.

Bonus 8th Deal: Turkeys are cheapest two weeks before Thanksgiving.
