St. Paddy's Family Fun and More

This week Frugal Family offers a smorgasbord of activities, deals and suggestions to choose from including a St. Patrick's Day parade, model train show, free acting classes and grocery specials.

Spring is coming; can you feel it? If you can’t feel it yet by the weather, you can certainly tell by the advertisements of garage sales, outdoor-themed events and even by what’s on sale at the grocery store.

This week Frugal Family offers a smorgasbord of activities, deals and suggestions to choose from including a St. Patrick’s Day parade, model train show, free acting classes and grocery specials. There’s something for every age and interest with one common feature: It’s not expensive.

Atlanta’s 130th St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Saturday at noon. Free. Celebrate Atlanta’s Irish heritage with a great day filled with floats, bands, bagpipes, clowns and activities. The parade begins at Peachtree and Ralph McGill, travels down Peachtree Street and ends at 5 Points on Marietta Street.

400 Family Children's Consignment Event. Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Mount Paran North Church of God, 1700 Allgood Rd, 770-578-9081. More than 40,000 items and great buys on children’s clothing, toys, books, bikes, linens, baby equipment and more. Most items will have an additional 50 percent off on Saturday. The Model Train Show. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., , 2 Galleria Pkwy. Admission: $8 for adults; kids 12 and under are free. The Southeast's premier train show. Six operating model railroads and a special railroad kids can run. More than 260 model train dealer tables. Door prizes, raffle layout and a white elephant table (sell your model railroad stuff). Free parking.

Touch-A-Truck. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kennesaw Historic Train Depot, 2828 Cherokee St. Kids of all ages will have the opportunity to touch, climb on and learn about their favorite vehicles in a safe, supervised environment. Transportation on display includes police and emergency vehicles, construction trucks and tractors, cool cars, specialty vehicles, and tricycles for tots. The event will also feature children's activities, food and beverage sales, and sponsor exhibits.
