Events for senior citizens in March include Wii games, bingo, dancing, films, health awareness, history discussions, support groups, exercise and more.

February is full of activities limited to adults age 55 and above. Events throughout Cobb County range from Wii games, bingo, dancing, films, health awareness, history discussions, support groups, art, exercise and more.

Marvin Hamlisch at Symphony Hall & South City Kitchen
Friday, March 16, 4:00 p.m.- 11:00 p.m. Check-in time 3:30 p.m.
His reputation is legendary. He’s won Oscars, Tonys and Emmys. Marvin Hamlisch is a composer, arranger, performer and storyteller for all time. This is an evening of music ranging from his early work like Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows made famous by Leslie Gore to The Entertainer from "The Sting" and One from "A Chorus Line."

Monday, March 12: The Help, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Cost: $4 Cobb Residents; $5 Nonresidents
From the best selling novel by Kathryn Stockett comes The Help! This is the story of an aspiring young author during the civil rights movement of the 1960’s. She decides to write a book detailing the African-American maids’ point of view on the white families for which they work and the hardships they go through on a daily basis. Come for ice cream, popcorn and this wonderful story brought to life on film.

Coffee and Conversation
Tuesday, March 13: Dan Benish, retired Atlanta Falcons, 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Football and football players are just as American as apple pie and the center is offering coffee, muffins and conversation with retired Atlanta Falcon Defensive Tackle, Dan Benish. Dan started his successful football career at Clemson University where he was a very proud member of their 1981 National Championship team. Dan enjoyed a 7 year career in the NFL playing for the Atlanta Falcons and the Washington Redskins. While with the Redskins he was part of their 1988 Super Bowl XXII winning team. Come learn about the life of a professional football player and the teams where he played.

Biography – Life Stories through Time
Wednesday, March 21: Biography of the Game Show, 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Here is a biography of a different sort. For decades contestants on televisions have answered trivia questions, performed stunts and challenged lady luck. Many a host has mesmerized with their ear-to-ear grins, humorous banter and exceedingly charming personalities. The games have gotten more elaborate and the ideas more inventive but the one thing that hasn’t changed is the popularity of the Game Show.

The History Corner
Friday, March 30: Florilegium: The Flowering of the Pacific, 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Free, Registration Required
Enjoy a rich mixture of art, history and exploration as the documentary traces the first voyages of Joseph Banks who, as a young botanist, accompanied Captain James Cook on his first journey of circumnavigation. On this voyage Banks collected over seven hundred unknown species of plants and had them recorded in drawings by Sidney Parkinson. The book of drawings was not printed until two hundred years after Banks’ death in a direct printing project that was the largest undertaken in the history of the fine arts. Here is a bit of history that you need to see.

$15 annual dues. Must be 55 or over and single. Not a dating service.

Tuesday, March 13: Foot Care & Fall Prevention, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Cost: $5 Cobb residents/$6 Non-residents, registration required
Seminar on foot care and balance. Presented by Dr. Evan Brody of West Cobb Foot and Ankle. Foundation Therapy Center will also conduct fall risk screenings.
