SEE A FILM THAT MATTERS

Where/When: Historic Fourth Ward Park, 680 Dallas St., Friday, Sept. 30, 7 p.m. is when some family fun activities begin and the movie begins at sundown

Why go: In partnership with the AIDS Memorial Quilt, see “Philadelphia” as part of the series “Films That Matter,” The National Center for Civil and Human Rights has run this series of film showings all summer, so don’t miss this one, starring Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington.

FIND OUT WHAT “THE TASTE OF SALT” IS ALL ABOUT

Why go: Algonquin Books and Eagle Eye Bookshop in Decatur have teamed up to host award-winning novelist Martha Southgate, as she talks about and signs her new book, “The Taste of Salt.”

ARTEFASHION MUSEUM DEBUTS THIS WEEKEND

Where/When: , 45 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd. NW, Friday, Sept. 30. VIP reception starts at 7 p.m., event starts at 8 p.m.

Why go: “The Beginning” is the debut of ArteFahion Museum here in Atlanta. Partnering with W Atlanta and Make-A-Wish Foundation, this night will fuse high fashion and human art together as guests are taken through three phases of entertainment, which include: exhibits, a runway show and a celebration. Featured is Jaslene Gonzalez, an “America’s Next Top Model” winner as a runway model for the evening.

EXPLORE THE HOTOBERFEST

Where/When: Glenwood Park Community, 916 Glenwood Park Dr., Saturday, Oct. 1, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Why go: Earth Beer Music says it all as this sustainable earth event, HOToberfest, kicks off this weekend. Organized to promote sustainability and conscious choices to balance the use of natural resources and promote wellness, funds raised are donated to support efforts of non-profit groups based on these beliefs. This festival just wants to make dealing with these issues “fun.” The Beer competition part of this event allows participants to experience more than 170 craft beers and much, much more.
