Hundreds Flood Jim Miller Park for Used Books, DVDs, More

Cobb County Public Library Friends' Book Sale made more than 150,000 books available with the hope of raising more than $40,000 for new books and audio/visual materials.

With more than 150,000 books available, the Cobb County Public Library Friends’ Book Sale at Jim R. Miller Park last weekend was for several days the most popular place in Georgia for readers and book lovers.

The moment the doors opened for the sale on Friday, more than 400 people filled the exhibit hall looking through the donated books, DVDs, videotapes and CDs.

"It's a win for everybody," said Patty Latch, program coordinator for the Cobb library system. "People have a way to donate books and buy used books. It generates a whole lot of good will to the library."

The sale required the work of more than 100 volunteers who gave more than 1,000 hours to the project. Latch said the library hoped to raised more than $40,000 so the library could purchase news books and audio/visual materials across the system.
