IB Class, License Plate Poll, Volleyball

Here's what you should know to start Aug. 23 in Marietta.

In sports, Marietta High plays host to North Springs and Lakeside in varsity volleyball, starting at 5 p.m. female athletes are headed west, the volleyball team to Villa Rica for a 5:30 p.m. game and the softball team to North Paulding for a 5:45 game. volleyball team travels to nearby Whitefield Academy to play the WolfPack and Strong Rock Christian, starting at 5 p.m., and the softball team is home against Westminster. We'll also have a report this morning from the U.S. Amateur golf tournament, where Marietta's Scott Davenport shot a 76 Monday.

The is meeting twice today, first in a work session at 1:30 p.m. to go over the , which goes into effect Oct. 1, and again in a regular session at 7 p.m. Both meetings are at 100 Cherokee St. Marietta Patch will have live coverage of the night meeting. Today’s meetings come a day after the commissioners joined the for a lunch meeting with the county’s legislative delegation in Atlanta to discuss new county voting districts and the Transportation SPLOST. According to the Marietta Daily Journal, school board member David Banks took a lot of heat during that meeting for pushing instead of working with the rest of the board on .
