Lidiane Carmo Released from Hospital

Lidiane Carmo recovered in Florida from the critical injuries she suffered in the I-75 crash that killed her family.

Lidiane Carmo has left the hospital a month and a half after the that killed .

The 15-year-old freshman at was the last of 22 survivors of the Interstate 75 crashes near Gainesville, FL, Jan. 29 to leave Shands at the University of Florida hospital, the Gainesville Sun reported.

She was still at the hospital Tuesday, 44 days after the accident, but was gone Thursday when the Sun checked again.

Lidiane’s pastor, the Rev. Aaron Amazonas, had posted a message March 8 on Facebook that she was getting better and was just waiting to be released. He included a photo of a healthy-looking Lidiane posted by her maternal uncle, Fabio Souza.

We had some very good news about Lidiane,” Amazonas posted March 7. “She is doing very good and won’t take long anymore at the hospital.”

During her time , Kennesaw resident Lidiane for her parents, Jose and Adriana Carmo; her 17-year-old sister, Sprayberry junior Leticia; one of her uncles, Edson Carmo; and Edson’s girlfriend, Roselia DeSilva.

Those five and Lidiane were in a van caught in a chain-reaction accident involving multiple cars, trucks and tractor-trailers between 3:30 and 4 a.m. in an area of I-75 shrouded in fog and smoke.

The Carmos were in the first of two vans from their Brazilian-immigrant-focused Marietta church, Igreja Internacional da Restauracao (International Church of the Restoration), trying to get home from a religious conference in Orlando in time for Sunday church services.

The , and communities rallied to support the family after the crash, raising money for funeral expenses and Lidiane’s medical needs.

Delta Air Lines flew the five bodies free to Brazil for burial last month. Lidiane will live with Souza’s family in Cobb County.
