Here are the latest updates on road work being done around Cobb County.

Barrett Parkway Construction – EXPECT DELAYS

Northbound Barrett Parkway (Burnt Hickory Road to US 41) Expect periodic lane closures northbound between 9 a.m.-7 p.m. between Burnt Hickory Road and Cobb Parkway (US 41) as the contractor performs grading operations, bridge construction, wall construction and storm drainage work. 

Southbound Barrett Parkway (Cobb Place to Burnt Hickory Road) Expect periodic lane closures southbound from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. between Cobb Place and Burnt Hickory Road as the contractor continues grading operations, wall construction and storm drainage work.

Old 41 Highway (at Barrett Parkway intersection) Also anticipate periodic lane closures on Old 41 Highway from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. near the intersection with Barrett as the contractor performs grading operations and wall construction.

Casteel Road Sidewalks Construction

Ballard Drive to Dallas Highway (SR 120) Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. as the contractor begins excavation and installation of curb and gutter.

County Services Parkway Sidewalks Construction

Austell Road to Powder Springs Road Expect periodic lane closures from with one lane in both directions remaining open while the contractor installs storm drainage and placing concrete sidewalk.

Floyd Road Construction – EXPECT DELAYS

Clay Road to Hicks Road Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with one lane remaining open as the contractor installs new water main, storm drainage and grading. 

Pedestrian Access

Pedestrian traffic will also be affected as temporary sidewalks are constructed while old sidewalks are removed and new sidewalks are constructed along the east side of Floyd Rd. Additional traffic barrels and directional signage will assist pedestrians needing access to existing CCT bus stops on the west side of Floyd. All existing CCT bus stops will be maintained during construction. Pedestrian paths may be temporarily relocated during short-duration closures as construction continues. When needed, contractors may assist/escort pedestrians through the work zone.

Hicks Road Sidewalks Construction

Frontier Trail to Floyd Oaks Drive Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. as the contractor places final striping, signage and dressing/grassing throughout the project.

I-285 Top-End Resurfacing Project - GDOT

Georgia DOT continues working on a $56 million resurfacing project on I-285. Crews will resurface 10 miles of I-285 between Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County and Ashford Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County. Most work will take place nights and weekends.  The project is scheduled to complete in August 2013. Ledford Drive Drainage Construction

Ledford Drive The contractor continues excavation and the construction of the new culvert.  Ledford Drive is closed, but access is available in both directions.

Little Willeo Road Sidewalks Construction

Karls Gate Drive to Lake Fjord Pass Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. with one lane remaining open for clearing operations and installation of erosion control.  

Lower Roswell Road Construction – EXPECT DELAYS

Davidson Road to Willow Point Parkway to Timber Ridge Road. Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Davidson Rd and Willow Point Pkwy with one lane open for your commute.  The contractor will be grading and placing concrete. Weather Permitting – the contractor may begin asphalt paving between Hyde Rd and Asheforde Dr.  

May 2013 - New Chastain Road Westbound Bridge Replacement

In May 2013, Cobb County DOT is scheduled to begin work on replacing the westbound bridge on New Chastain Rd over Noonday Creek.  This will result in closing the westbound lanes for approximately four months beginning this summer.  Westbound traffic will be detoured to the eastbound bridge, which will provide one lane in each direction during construction. Additional detour information will be made available at a public information meeting from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., Thursday, April 18, at St. Andrews Methodist Church, 3455 Canton Rd. Marietta, GA.   

May 2013 - Paper Mill Road Bridge Replacement

In May 2013, Cobb County DOT will begin work on replacing the bridge and adding a pedestrian bridge over Sope Creek on Paper Mill Road. The new bridge will include a six foot sidewalk on the south side, providing access to the National Park Service trails. This project will result in closing Paper Mill Road at the bridge for approximately four months beginning once school breaks for the summer. Signed detour routes will be provided during construction. Additional detour information will be made available at a public information meeting in April.  More details to come.

Road Resurfacing – EXPECT DELAYS

Hiram-Lithia Springs Road from Brownsville Road to Douglas County Line Asphalt paving operations - which will include lane closures with one lane remaining open at all times - are **scheduled next week (Monday 2/25 through Friday 3/1) on the following roads:  

Shiloh Road/Shallowford Road Construction

Wade Green Road to Canton Road Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. as the contractor continues  clearing operations and installation of new water main between Bells Ferry Road and Canton Road.
