Marietta Music Is Always a Good Reason to Go Out

Blues, jazz and songs of faith descend on Marietta this weekend.

With the metropolis of Atlanta to the south and numerous renowned musical venues peppered across the metro area, Marietta's music scene is often lost amid the din. But as any Marietta music lover knows, the local scene here remains vibrant and essential. Marietta Patch is here to help you navigate it.

1. The Glover Park Brown Bag Concert Series is back on Thursdays in September from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. This week, Bob Geresti and his piano will be sending sweet music into the air for our lunchtime pleasure. Pack a lunch, bring some friends and family and get out and enjoy some great tunes and fresh air. Free fun for all.

2. Kayla Taylor Jazz hosts the fourth installment of this season's Candle Light Concert Series on Saturday at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. Also at the amphitheatre this weekend, Due West United Methodist Church hosts the 13th annual Festival of Music on Sunday at 7 p.m. Remember our history, our heroes and our Christian heritage through a combination of beloved patriotic songs, original selections and narration's.

3. Darwin's Burgers and Blues is reopened and back to juking out the blues. Thursday night open jams are back. Come enjoy some of Atlanta's most talented blues players in a fusion type setting.

Friday night 20-year-old Truett Lollis brings out the Trio to gets folks up and dancing. Lollis has been playing the stylings of Stevie Ray Vaughn and other greats like there was no tomorrow since before he even had facial hair. 18+ and $5 at the door.

4. Margaritas for $2.99 and and some hot sax sounds are back on the menu as Gary Harris brings his smooth playing to Vaqueros Mexican Cantina and Grill for another night of great live jazz. Gary plays all around Atlanta and is yet another of Atlanta's talented and hard working musicians.

5. Nik's Place has live music seven days a week and cooks up some delicious Greek inspired food from the kitchen. Friday, The Bretheren brings some deep southern delta blues for an eclectic mix.

Saturday, Rod Hamdallah takes the stage with his own branding of garage blues and roots music, influenced by early punk and garage rock. The 21-year-old musician has been on stages all around Atlanta, playing guitar, bass and even on the drumset since he was 16.
