Marietta Music Scene: Always Fun and Exciting

Marietta is kicking out the tunes this weekend with a broad mix of genre choices.

With the metropolis of Atlanta to the south and numerous renowned musical venues peppered across the metro area, Marietta's music scene is often lost amid the din. But as any Marietta music lover knows, the local scene here remains vibrant and essential. Marietta Patch is here to help you navigate it.

1. Every Tuesday the on Marietta Square hosts an open Bluegrass Jam. Get out the wash board and polish up your spoons, come on in and have a knee kicking time with some very talented folks.

2. Saturday night, Player's Sports Bar and Cafe has the ground pounding sounds of Knucklehead Rules taking the stage. Put on your leathers, hop on your bike and enjoy yummy food and hard driving Rock 'n Roll.

3. Darwin's Burgers and Blues is back into the swing of things, new and improved. Ernie knows how to book some of the best Blue's folks around and has food that makes your mouth water just thinking about it.

Thursday hosts the Open Blues Jam. Come see some of Atlanta's finest players fill the place with 12 bar counts and hip shaking Blues. Weekends you get in with a $5 cover. Friday brings Rhythm Raiders; Saturday hosts Fedora Blues. Fred Meltzer plays his last performance as percussionist extraordinaire with this prodigious accumulation of Blues players. Best Wishes Fred in all you do! Darwin's is always closed on Sunday. Monday brings out Jim Ransone. Tuesday hosts Little G, and Wednesday you'll find Ross Pead.

4. A diverse mix of old guard Heavy Metal is invading this weekend at The Local at Sidelines Marietta. The Pathfinder MetalFest III brings national acts at The Local to slay us with vigorous sounds under bright lights.

Black tee's are a must. Snap on your gauntlets, put on your studded platform boots and get that hair and mind ready to rock. Friday kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with Fallen Templars, Great Awakening, Benedictum, DesDemon and Halcyon Way (thrash to their new CD release show). Saturday starts the fun at 5:30 p.m. with Brazen Angel, Centralia,Β  Odin's Court, Void of Reason, Hephystus and Seven Kingdoms.

5. The Atlanta Opera opens Lucia di Lammermoor on Saturday at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Under the direction of Tomer Zvulun, you can enjoy what his bio raves about, "The Seattle Times declared his production 'a poetic, unalloyed triumph,' and Opera News and The Plain Dealer proclaimed the Cleveland production a 'winning, stirring, stylish production.'”
