Marietta Parks and Recreation to Break Ground at Hickory Hills Park

Planning leads to park design with community use in mind.

Marietta is about to have an upgraded space for families to come together and play. Tuesday will be the groundbreaking ceremony for Hickory Hills Park from 6-7 p.m. Marietta Mayor will be speaking at "The Town Hall Meeting" at following the groundbreaking.

The improvements are funded by the $25 million parks referendum voters passed in 2009, said officials. The budgeted $1.75 million for the construction of the park, and the bid for the work came in at $1.43 million.  The city awarded the construction contract to CRS Building Corporation in Alpharetta. A playground structure, budgeted between $130,000 and $200,000, will be bid separately from the park in the next several weeks.

City officials hope to have the park completed by the end of January. It will include two youth-sized soccer fields and a multi-purpose field, which will all remain closed until the beginning of spring so that the grass can grow in properly.
