Marietta Reads! 9th Annual Kickoff

Marietta Reads! is a community event that encourages reading with a book fair, costume characters and performances.

Marietta Reads!, the citywide effort to foster reading and literacy in the community, celebrates its 9th anniversary Sept. 24 in Glover Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The annual Marietta Reads! has a book fair, book costume characters, celebrity readers and entertainment including the Georgia Force Players and Cheerleaders, MCS Elementary Chorus and other school drama and dance performances, plus guest appearances by Marietta Reads! mascot Mari-Etta.

“Success in school starts with reading, and Marietta Reads! continues to make a difference in school and community literacy,” said Debra Pickett, MCS assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, in a news release.

“Since its inception in 2003, Marietta Reads! has provided over 34,350 grade-level books to students across the district," Picket added.
