Marietta Schools Unite to Mentor At-Risk Youth
For first Young Men's Leadership Conference at Marietta High School, educators and business leaders urge boys to make decisions to become great men.
Educators from , and all came together on Tuesday with Marietta Mentoring for Leadership on a mission to guide youth in a positive direction. The event: the First Annual Young Men's Leadership conference with the theme "Empowerment for the Journey.β
About 30 young men joined the program, chosen due to their at-risk status AND their leadership potential and at risk potential. Through the program, the students engaged in breakout sessions with titles such as βHow Do I Learn,β βCreative Coping Skills,β βAnti-Bullyingβand βThe Face-Off: My School Life vs. My Home Life.β
The adults included Marjorie Kellogg, a former Marietta High teacher who came out of retirement to head Marietta Mentoring for Leadership; Darius Dunson, a Marietta High alumnus who credits Kellogg with mentoring him through the difficult years; Dayton Hibbs, principal of the Sixth Grade Academy; and Dr. Timothy Jones, principal of Marietta Middle.
