More Heat, Temporary Road Closures

Here's what you need to know to start July 25 in Marietta.

1. Things will stay steamy in Marietta. According to the National Weather Service, there's a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, mainly after 2 p.m. It will be mostly cloudy with a high near 90. The heat index could hit 98. The overnight low will be around 73 with a 60 percent chance of rain.

2. Railroad maintenance will affect a few Marietta streets this week. CSX workers will repair potholes along the track in eastbound Whitlock Avenue today, which could lead to some partial lane closures, the city says. Expect similar work on East Dixie Avenue today and Tuesday and on Waverly Way on Wednesday and Thursday.

3. Wellness checkups are important, and in Northeast Cobb will host free diabetes screenings from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Wednesday.

4. The on Marietta Square begins its second musical theater camp today. focuses on music, dance and drama in the weeklong camp. It culminates in a Friday night performance at the Strand. Strand Executive Director Earl Reece developed the Performula concept.
