A READing Paws Dog?

The Marietta Wine Market hosts a charity wine tasting for READing Paws with several READing Paws therapy teams in attendance.

Dogs can read? Of course they can’t, but they are great listeners. And their presence creates an inviting and motivating environment.

When a READing Paws dog is listening, the environment is transformed, a child’s dread is replaced by eager anticipation and learning occurs, Melissa Saul of READing Paws said.

The handler is a skilled facilitator too—shifting performance pressure off the child and providing support, while the child gets the supervised reading practice necessary to build vocabulary, increase understanding of the material and gain fluency as a reader, Saul explained.
