June is full of activities limited to adults age 55 and above. Events throughout Cobb County include walks, health screenings, games, history discussions, technology classes, movies and more.

Gibbs Gardens, Wednesday, June 27, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Check-in time 8:00 a.m.

Adults are off to experience a “harmony or nature” at the unforgettable Gibbs Gardens. The walking tour of these magnificent gardens encompasses 220 acres. There are 24 ponds, 32 bridges and 19 waterfalls to wander around. The Manor House Gardens include seasonal floral displays, a Rose Arbor, Woodland Shade Garden and a nature Canopy Walk. The Valley Gardens feature a Japanese Garden, Monet Waterlily Garden, Grandchildren’s Sculpture Garden, Rose Garden, Fernery and Daylily Garden. Lunch is a picnic in the Gardens. Cost: $52 Senior Council Member; $57 Non Member.

Well, it’s actually easier than you think! Learn the ins and outs of this exciting computer system. You’ll learn what exactly the differences are and what those differences mean to you.

Across major cities around the world, high-rise apartment buildings are the mainstay of the modern urban skyline.  In this eye opening program you will travel to the Roman seaport of Ostia, where a number of these ancient apartments still exist.  Like their modern descendants, these apartments provide more than just places to live, offering baths, cleaners and restaurants all housed in complexes several stories high.  From ancient Italy you will travel to Bath, England to learn about the brilliantly designed Roman baths.

Peter the Great towered over his people.  He was a physical giant determined to shatter tradition and force his nation into the modern world.  He established a navy, westernized the army and brought science, culture and medicine to Russia.  He was also a ruthless and brutal leader known for torturing and executing his own sons.  Join us for the story, with location footage and art of the world of Peter the Great, the czar who forged an empire.

Join others for this incredibly moving account of young Albert as he enlists to serve in World War I after his beloved horse is sold to the cavalry.  Albert’s hopeful journey takes him out of England and across Europe as the war rages on.  War Horse was nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture.  Popcorn and ice cream sundaes!

Beat the Summer Heat, Wednesday, June 20, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Free; Registration required. Summertime is almost upon us!  It’s the time we long for during the long, gray winter months when we’ll get back out into our gardens, take our exercise activities outdoors, travel, and give the house a deep spring cleaning.  Whatever activities you enjoy during the summertime it’s crucial to know how to beat the heat so you can continue enjoying them for years to come. The Abilene Paradox, Wednesday, June 20, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Cost: $5.00 Cobb residents/ $6.00 Non-residents; advance ticket purchase required. T.J. Cochran with Cobb Human Resources is back with another interesting topic, “The Abilene Paradox”, a typical example is why do we say YES when we mean to say NO!  Lunch after the seminar: say “yes” to hot dogs and ice cream.
