Marietta will be filled with alternative blues and grassroots music this weekend at a variety of venues.
With the metropolis of Atlanta to the south and numerous renowned musical venues peppered across the metro area, Marietta's music scene is often lost amid the din. But as any Marietta music lover knows, the local scene here remains vibrant and essential. Marietta Patch is here to help you navigate it.
1. The Local at Sidelines Marietta brings the weekend in with the rocking stylings of Motor City Josh on Friday.
Saturday, The Atlanta Blues Society hosts the Atlanta Heat of the International Blues Challenge 2012. The International Blues Challenge 2012 will be the 28th year of Blues musicians from around the world competing for cash, prizes and industry recognition.

There is a $10 cover charge, and the challenge will begin with the following adult bands, in no particular order:
- Joe McGuinness Trio
- Truett Lollis Trio
- Hoosier Daddy

2. is always rocking. An eclectic mix of local musicians blend to make this one of Marietta's great music venues.
Wednesday is open mic Blues Jams with McKnight and Company. Thursday is the Open Jam.
If getting up and playing has you worn out during the week, sit down and tap your toes with Barry Richman on Friday or Reynolds and Williams on Saturday. On Sunday, wind it down with Kristan Tinsley.
3. Wild Wing Marietta has yummy morsels, cold beverage and live local music in house every weekend and on Tuesday nights.
Friday night get out and enjoy the AC/DC covers of Back n' Black. Saturday rock out with Dr. Feelgood. Put on your best 80's attire and come bang your head. Chris Wold takes the stage on Tuesday for your almost midweek pleasure.
4. The keeps it local this Friday with The Packway Handle Band. Four of the Five members grew up in Cobb county and shine with what they call alternative/blues. Friday night, tickets $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
5. Acorn Ridge headlines the Marietta Grassroots Music Festival in Glover Park. This takes place on Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m.
This festival began three years ago as, in their own words, "an outreach program to provide safe, family friendly events and activities with a special focus on showcasing local talent present in Marietta and surrounding communities.”
