Two Unique Takes on Super Bowl Sunday

Marietta's restored theater and a downtown church offered residents distinctly new ways to experience the most important day of football.

I took some time for myself prior to Sunday's big game and headed to downtown Marietta. I saw smoke in the distance and then smelled something yummy. Both led me to the parking lot of First Baptist Church of Marietta.

The congregation was amid its "Big Game Outreach." Under the leadership of both Randy Everette, the minister to students, and Pastor Bill Ross, the church had opened its doors to the homeless and less fortunate of our community for the day. They were offering food, fellowship and warm clothing to whomever needed them.

What an amazing way to spend Super Bowl Sunday.

And around the corner, the Earl Smith Strand Theatre offered another fantastic event to the community: A free showing of the game on the big screen.
