Week Displays Marietta's Diverse Music Scene

Whether you enjoy blues, heavy metal, country or opera, it's available this week near Marietta. So get out and support the music scene.

With the metropolis of Atlanta to the south and numerous renowned musical venues peppered across the metro area, Marietta's music scene is often lost amid the din. But as any Marietta music lover knows, the local scene here remains vibrant and essential. Marietta Patch is here to help you navigate it.

1. , 645 Whitlock Ave. This quaint Greek restaurant housed in an 1868 farm house has changed names a few times, but it delivers the live entertainment through a long weekend. Thursday nights offer an open jam with host Nathan Nelson from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Feel free to bring your  your ax and jam with some of Atlanta’s best! Friday offers Blues Cat with the Barry Richman Band in house. Saturday, the joint will be juking with The Funky Kings taking the stage. To finish off an incredible weekend journey at Niks, Kristin Tinsley winds it down on Sunday.

2. The Cave Tapas Bar offers a dark romantic ambience and amazing food as well as some great cover-band music with . Come enjoy some covers with Generations Apart on Friday and  Chameleon Atlanta, covering everything from The Frey to U2 to Ozzy and more on Saturday.

3. Runaround Sues sees Yung Joc taking the stage Friday night. The event is available "for 18 to chill, but 21 to spill." This establishment provides courtesy vans to ensure safe rides home.

4. The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre offers a diverse weekend slate. On Friday, the Atlanta Opera presents Mozart's Così Fan Tutte. On Saturday, Lucinda Williams brings her unique style of American rock, folk, blues and country to the stage.

5. Finally, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers are scheduled to appear Saturday at the , marking the end of this year's Encore entertainment season. The Gatlin Brothers struck gold in the 1970s and 1980s with such hits as "All the Gold in California" and "She Used to Be Somebody's Baby." For information, call 770-528-8490.
