Wind Advisory: Gusts Up to 40 MPH Possible

Severe storms and heavy rainfall are possible as a strong storm system and cold front move across north and central Georgia.

Strong winds are expected to develop as a storm system and cold front move into the South Cobb area Wednesday.

In effect 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, a wind advisory for north and central Georgia, including Cobb County, warns of 15 to 25 mph winds with gusts up to 35 mph, which make driving difficult.

"Showers and a few thunderstorms will accompany these winds, but it should be noted that very strong winds will be possible outside of any shower or thunderstorm activity as well," the advisory says. "Recent rains and the additional heavy rainfall anticipated from this system will allow for trees to be uprooted with greater ease."

A squall line capable of producing widespread damaging winds and isolated tornadoes is expected to cross the area Wednesday night, according to NWS' hazardous weather outlook. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy rainfall also can be expected with thunderstorms.
