Artists Market Enriching Marietta Square

In addition to bringing art to Marietta Square, the Artists Market helps fund the Branding Project, which is working to brand and promote Historic Downtown Marietta.

The Marietta Artists Market, which launched last year, is expanding.

The market will be held the second and fourth Saturday of each month from April through November.

With room for 40 booths on Mill Street the event brings together a variety of quality art including jewelry, pottery, sculptures, glass work, felting, paintings, photography and more.

"We try to keep the art at a fine art level," Donna Krueger, owner of and president of The Branding Project, which sponsors the event, said.

"We want to include a lot of different people," Krueger said. "We want people to experience all types of art. It's about bringing art to the community.

"Art helps the community thrive and arts, plural, enrich our lives. Bringing art into the town and building up an appreciation for it is important, and the Artists Market is part of doing that."

In addition to bringing art to Marietta Square, the Artists Market helps fund the Branding Project, a membership organization created to brand and promote Historic Downtown Marietta. Artists pay for each session that they participate in at the market.

"One hundred percent of the money goes back into promoting Historic Downtown Marietta, and we're earmarking it directly for advertising," Krueger said.

The fine art juried event is held on Marietta Square in conjunction with the Marietta Farmers Market, which has about 60 vendors.

"The first year was a huge success," Krueger noted. In 2011, there was one Artists Market a month. This year the market will run twice a month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

When the Market started it was intended to be for students of art schools, Krueger said. "While we have a good number of students participating, we wanted to include more people."

The Artists Market is run by a committee made up of merchants and Professor Jim Werner.
