Chalk It Up During Art in the Park

The public is invited to register for the third annual Chalk Fest Competition Labor Day weekend on the Square. The juried art event will take place Saturday, Aug. 31 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Anderson Street adjacent to the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art, and is sponsored by the Marietta Art in the Park festival in conjunction with the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art. 

"We are excited to be hosting another chalk event for the city of Marietta," Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art executive director Sally Macaulay said. "This year will be even better because Chalk Fest has grown so much since last year. The streets will literally come alive with art."

Participants will have the opportunity to create artwork with chalk alongside professional artists in randomly selected sidewalk squares. The works will remain on display throughout the festival, weather permitting.

About Chalk Fest

  • Previously known as "Chalk It Up"
  • This year: expanded to include 20 contracted, professional chalk artists from across the country
  • Professional artists will draw on Atlanta Street in front of spectators Aug. 31-Sept. 2 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Featured artists: renowned chalk artists Ron Hawkins, Jennifer Chaparro and Dorothy Sabean
The event will also include a separate area for young children who want to draw with chalk but don't want to compete.

Judging and awards will take place on Aug. 31 at 3 p.m.

Prizes include $650 in cash in the adult division and $35 in gift cards in the youth division. 

Admission to Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art is free during Chalk Fest.
