Art & Design Show House Benefitting Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art

SHOW HOUSE
The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art has found a creative new way to frame and exhibit art—all in the name of fundraising. The inaugural Art & Design Show House will highlight top interior designers, showcase a fantastic new home design, and will be the first show home to coordinate the interior design ‘around’ the art. The home will also showcase southeastern art and jewelry in the neighboring historic Lawrence House. The show house will be open to the public from Saturday, May 7 through May 22.

The 2011 show house, built by Marietta developer Mark Kirk, is located at 21 Whitlock Drive, a property in the Walnut Grove development in historic Marietta on Whitlock Avenue and boasts 16 rooms by 21 designers.

HISTORIC LAWRENCE HOUSE
Adjacent to the show house is the historic Lawrence House which was built in 1870. One of the oldest homes in Marietta, it will serve as a gallery for southeastern artwork and jewelry. Thirty percent of all sales of jewelry and art in the gallery and the show house will benefit the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art. A CALL FOR ENTRIES is available to all artists and an entry form can be found on the show house’s website. The Lawrence House will also host the festivities of “The Reveal” opening night party and a Johnnie Gabriel cooking demonstration.

THE DESIGNERS
The Art & Design Show House’s design team is led by design directors Kathy Kuruc, Melinda Heidt, and Beth Meyer, who bring over 70 years of combined design experience to the show house project. The design roster includes both young and seasoned metro-Atlanta based designers with vision and design expertise not seen in a project of this nature in Cobb County, including: Leigh Ann Bushey, Cindy Davidson, Sue Dean, Ginger Gaddy, Jerome Garrison, Ann Gronewald, Susan Hardy, Melinda Heidt, Nancy Hildreth, Chris Hutcheson, Molly Johnson, Kathy Kuruc, Beth Meyer, Clark Miller, Barbara Moran, Ann Morris, Yvonne Portwood, Kelli Wallace, Tony Whitlock, Debbie Withrow, and Anne Young.

THE ARTISTS
Artwork that will be showcased in the show house includes paintings and sculptures by Elizabeth Barber, Clara Blalock, Helen DeRamus, Claire Dunaway, Linda Flournoy, Seth Havercamp, Amanda Henrich, Mary Jane Huegel, Patrick McGannon, Lisa Moore, Anne Packard, Steve Penley, Eduin Rosell, Maci Scheuer, Belinda Sillars, and Richard Thompson.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
It is estimated that over 400 volunteers will be needed to support this fundraiser. Interested parties are requested to visit the website and submit information through the form on the volunteer page.

BENEFITING MARIETTA/COBB MUSEUM OF ART
The Art & Design Show House is brought to the community by the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art—a non-profit organization – and all proceeds benefit the museum and the arts. The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art is the leading visual arts center in the metro Atlanta that focuses solely on American art. Its mission is to inspire and educate a diverse community through exhibition, interpretation, collection and presentation of works of American art.
