HGTV Films TV Segment at Cool Beans

A film crew and host spent several hours Wednesday afternoon filming a segment of the show "For Rent" at Cool Beans coffee shop off the square.

The smell of coffee swirled about, and a grinder roared at downtown hotspot, Cool Beans, this afternoon.

But today, the silence of clicking from those on their lap tops, and the grinder, were interrupted by the occasional "47 take five" followed by the whack of the "clapper." (That's what the guy with a camera said it is called.)

An HGTV film crew and host spent several hours Wednesday filming a segment of the show "For Rent" at Cool Beans. Host Jodi Gilmour interviewed Seamus and Anna Bourne of Marietta.

He works at the Theatre on the Square as a set designer and she's in TV and film. They wanted to move closer to the area. Both said they really didn't have time to scour listings for a place, and saw something online about the show filming in the area.

"We knew they were based in Canada," Anna said. But we were like "that's the show we need to be on."

Once selected through an online and in-person interview, the show picks people for segments. HGTV is in the Atlanta area filming six episodes of the show, in its fourth season.

Gilmour guides renters to a home that fits their budget. Once the place is found, Gilmour performs TV-worthy makeover miracles on a dime.

Along the way, she helps them navigate the market with tips like how to conduct a search, how to negotiate a lease and what to look for and avoid in a property.

The show picked Cool Beans for two reasons. It was pouring and they needed to go inside, and the Borne's suggested it.

It's not the first time the popular coffee shop has been in the limelight.

"They've shot shorts and independent films here," said John Moulton, as he made some kind of frozen concoction.

The film crew fit in among the customers and nobody seemed to be paying much attention to it all. As a train began to roll through town, somebody yelled. "Train," and everything came to a halt.

Seamus Bourne busted out laughing, and took the moment to go move his car (two hour-lot and all.)

Barbara Williams fixed her coffee and said she'd seen the show several times.

"When I was looking for a house, it was very helpful," she said.

As the day wound down and the crew shot pictures of hands and coffee cups on the table, it was clear the couple had made a decision on a house.

I promised not to ruin the surprise. The segment will run some time in April probably.(They all shrugged and mumbled until I pushed them in a corner. So maybe, probably in April.)

Tune in Monday nights at 10:30 p.m. The house of your dreams could be right around the corner.
