"I felt honored they chose me to do their space," May said. "It was a great experience, crazy but great."

May said she had roughly a week to do the third room. "We knew what would happen if we won so we already had a plan in the works."

The style of the living room is traditional, according to May. "Before it was very much a man cave space," May said. "In the end, the space was bright and airy. It became an open family space."

The family were Civil War buffs, May noted. So May and her friend and helper Heidi Meister decided to build a gallery wall. "We wanted to honor what's important to them. It's always about them, not me."

May has been in business as an interior designer for just over a year. She is also a regular blogger, which she says is an integral part of her business.

"This last year has been such a whirlwind, the show included," May said. "I never thought I would be here a year ago. The blessings I've had have been beyond my expectations."

May has had a steady flow of work in the past year. She notes that the competition has been great for business and affected her blog traffic, but there are still a lot of clients who have no idea she was a part of the show.
