Picture This

Cameras and toddlers are not usually winning combinations, but we finally made it work by finding the perfect match.

My three-year old had taken a liking to , and after not once but twice, we decided to get him his own.

There are quite a few kiddie cameras out there, but with many of them you end up spending good money on cameras with poor picture quality. And even for a little kid, that can be discouraging.

So, after much deliberation on what camera to buy my now four-year-old aspiring photojournalist, we settled on the Olympus Stylus Tough, a shockproof and waterproof camera.

The hubby was sold when the sales person told him that this is one of the models used by the military due to its durability.

I thought, A camera that could withstand a grenade; exactly what we are looking for.

With his new companion in hand, he’s been having fun snapping shots and experimenting.  And I don’t have to cringe every time he drops it.

Be sure to check out some of his and .

What’s even more fun is the City of Diamond Bar’s Photo Contest: Through My Lens

Winners will be selected for each subject category (seven in all).  Photographers may enter as many categories as they like and could win $100 for each winning photo, plus a chance at the Grand Prize of $250.

The winning photos may be featured in the city’s calendar and services guide, displayed on the city’s website, in the city newsletter, and in other ways to promote Diamond Bar.

Photographers will also receive recognition by the Diamond Bar City Council and Diamond Bar Community Foundation Board.

The best part is that the contest is open to Diamond Bar residents of any skill level and any age, so my young budding photographer can enter. The entrants will be separated into two divisions, Youth (17 years and under) and Adult (18 years and older).

If you enjoy taking pictures around town, why not submit some of your best shots? I know we will!

DEADLINE:  All entries must be received by City Hall offices, online, or via e-mail no later than Friday, September 30, 2011 before 4:30 p.m.  Be sure to review all submission requirements.
